Job summary

EDF Energy in the United Kingdom seeks an engineer or scientist to join a team of physicists and engineers at Sizewell B Power Station. You will monitor reactor performance, ensure safe operation, and help maintain the safety case while interfacing with regulatory bodies.

This role offers involvement in major projects to extend Sizewell B’s life, manage climate change impact, and support the Dry Fuel Store Campaign, contributing to a robust nuclear safety position and future site development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualification: HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline; a relevant degree may be advantageous.
  • You will need an understanding of engineering and/or physics principles.
  • Self-motivated, resilient, and able to work independently to drive nuclear safety.

Responsibilities

  • Building effective networks and influencing towards the station business plan achievement.
  • Performing routine monitoring of the reactor core.
  • Providing reactor physics and safety case advice to operators and other departments on site.
  • Maintaining and developing knowledge within your core discipline while cross-skilling into other disciplines.
  • Developing and accessing changes to the station safety case.
  • Supporting outage preparation and outage delivery.
  • Advising on nuclear safety aspects of plant modifications, significant projects and other station interfaces.

We’re looking for a motivated engineer or scientist to join our team of physicists and engineers based at Sizewell B Power Station.

About The Role

We’re looking for a motivated engineer or scientist to join our team of physicists and engineers based at Sizewell B Power Station.

The team’s core responsibility is monitoring reactor performance, ensuring safe operation, maintaining the station safety case, compliance with the Nuclear Site Licence and management of the interface with regulatory bodies. You’ll ensure that legislation, company technical standards, technical specifications and management control processes are applied and followed.

This is an exciting time to join as Sizewell B has an ambitious ten years ahead.

As well as the core work, Nuclear Safety Engineers will be required to support significant projects to:

  • Extend the life of Sizewell B by at least another 20 years.
  • Manage the impact of climate change on site.
  • Support ongoing Dry Fuel Store Campaigns and development of the attendant safety case.
  • Ensure SZB maintains a robust Nuclear Safety position whilst enabling the construction and operation of an adjacent nuclear power station.

Pay, Benefits And Culture

The starting salary for this appointment will be within the range of £47,513 to £84,595 and will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experiences, and qualifications. The full salary range for this role is up to £99,929 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Company Agreement.

What You’ll Be Doing

Who You Are

The minimum qualification for this role is HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline and it may be advantageous if you hold a relevant degree.

  • You will need an understanding of engineering and/or physics principles.
  • You’ll be self-motivated, resilient and have a positive attitude towards your work.
  • You must be able to work independently, use your own initiative and act autonomously to drive nuclear safety.
