Job summary

Amentum in the UK is recruiting a Nuclear Physicist to perform advanced analyses and contribute to the development of software for nuclear data products.

The role involves developing mathematical and physical models, conducting reactor physics analyses, and delivering training to specialist audiences. Hybrid working and travel to client sites may be required, with flexible hours where possible.

Qualifications

About the opportunity

Are you a talented and ambitious individual looking to further your career in Nuclear Physics?


Amentum are currently recruiting for a Nuclear Physicist to perform complex technical analyses, deliver technical training and support the theoretical development of our software and nuclear data products.


The nuclear industry is moving away from traditional reactor designs towards new small modular reactor (SMR) and advanced modular reactor (AMR) designs, with improved safety features and lower build costs. These new concepts bring exciting new modelling challenges requiring the introduction of innovative new mathematics, physics, engineering and software engineering techniques.


We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative physicist to work in a variety of technical teams performing analysis work for a broad range of established and cutting-edge reactor designs.


This role will present excellent opportunities for the continual development of skills and experience in physics, particularly as applied to nuclear engineering; also, the potential to lead technical developments and collaborations, and the teams responsible for their implementation.


The role will be based at our Dorchester office with the opportunity to travel to client sites, as required. Some home / remote working is also available, and consideration will also be given in respect to part time & flexible working hours.

Key Responsibilities will be:
  • Developing underpinning mathematical and physical theories
  • Performing complex reactor physics plant analysis
  • Delivering technical training courses to a specialist audience
  • Working as a team to develop and refine theoretical models and computational simulations
  • Presenting results at technical meetings and conferences (where appropriate)
  • Interfacing closely with the international academic research community
  • Generating new business through interaction with international commercial customers
  • Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in mathematics, physics or engineering, or any other subject with a strong mathematical component
  • A strong background in mathematical and physical theory and implementation.
  • Programming skills in languages such as Fortran, Python or Java
  • Ability to think innovatively and to solve complex problems and able to quickly and efficiently absorb new technical skills
  • Self-motivated, with a genuine passion for the field of nuclear physics
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
