Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Human Factors Specialist to provide HF expertise for existing operations and new projects, locally and across the Growth area. The role is onsite at Springfields Fuels Limited, Salwick, Preston (UK), reporting to the Head of Engineering Governance.

Key responsibilities include acting as the HF Design Authority, conducting HRAs, applying HFE principles across design lifecycles, and supporting safety cases and training programs to enhance nuclear safety

Qualifications

• Degree in Ergonomics, Human Factors, Psychology or relevant engineering discipline or equivalent HF specialist experience.

Responsibilities

• Act as the HF Design Authority for major and minor projects, ensuring HF requirements are defined and implemented throughout the lifecycle.
• Fulfil the Human Factors Intelligent Customer role for the Springfields site, providing challenge and oversight of HF deliverables.
• Apply Human Factors Engineering principles across design lifecycle including HSIs, control rooms, workspaces and alarms.
• Support the site safety case process, applying HF methods and regulatory guidance (ONR, IAEA).
• Conduct Human Reliability Assessments and task analysis to identify human performance risks.
• Review and develop operating, maintenance and emergency procedures for clarity and usability.
• Plan and support verification and validation activities, including integrated system validation.
• Develop and implement HF Integration Plans using a graded risk-informed approach.
• Support HF capability and training, including SAT contributions.
• Participate in event investigations focusing on systemic and organisational causes.
