Job summary

Costain invites applications for an Environmental Manager to lead the environmental function for the HALEU Advanced Fuels Facility programme at Capenhurst, working on a nuclear-licensed site with a strong focus on water management and regulatory compliance.

The role requires ensuring permits, implementing the SHE Management System, and coordinating with the Costain team and client to deliver environmental improvements and risk controls across the project.

Qualifications

• 5 years' environmental experience within a Nuclear Licenced / High‑Hazard environment
• Experience obtaining environmental permits and developing relationships with regulatory authorities
• Water management expertise including surface water, groundwater, drainage, pollution prevention
• Strong background in environmental monitoring, reporting and data analysis
• Experience managing environmental incidents, investigations and corrective actions
• Relevant degree or NVQ Level 6 in Environmental Science/Management or related discipline

Responsibilities

• Environmental & Water Compliance — ensure permits and site requirements are met, advise on environmental controls
• Environmental Management System — support SHE Management System implementation across the project
• Water Risk Assessment & Mitigation — identify and manage water-related risks with mitigation plans
• Training & Coaching — deliver environmental training to teams
• Supply Chain Assurance — assess and onboard supply chain contractors per client requirements
• Environmental Assurance Programme — develop contract-specific compliance, inspections and audits
• Incident & Event Management — categorise, investigate and share lessons learned
• Environmental Data & Reporting — provide timely reporting and KPI-driven insights
