This post offers an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, professional Oral Maxillofacial Surgery team in Scotland’s Granite City.

NHS Grampian is seeking to recruit a full-time Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Reconstructive Scientist (Agenda for Change Band 8a). The successful applicant must hold current registration with the GDC/HCPC and preferably be a full member of the IMPT.

The Maxillofacial Laboratory provides comprehensive regional Maxillofacial Prosthetics services covering North East Scotland and the Highlands/Islands. We serve patients in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry, head and neck cancer cases, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Occupational Health, Neuro Surgery, Dermatology, and ENT surgery.

The main duties include:

  • Providing specialized clinical technical and maxillofacial prosthetic services for various surgical and medical specialties.
  • Offering scientific and advisory services for patient rehabilitation using implants, splints, and prostheses, especially in craniofacial reconstruction, congenital malformations, and malignancies.
  • Designing and constructing oral cancer appliances, splint therapy, sleep apnea devices, and post-operative appliances with high skill and responsibility.
  • Participating in orthognathic surgery planning and diagnostic treatment planning.
  • Training and mentoring junior staff.
  • Participating in a 1:4 on-call service providing 24-hour emergency support to surgical teams.

The successful candidate will be based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, the main teaching hospital in North East Scotland.

The North East of Scotland is a beautiful area with access to coastlines, Royal Deeside, and outdoor activities such as hill walking, mountain biking, and mountaineering. It has excellent transport links, including flights between Aberdeen and London. Aberdeen, known as the 'Oil Capital of Europe,' is a vibrant city with a variety of cultural venues, restaurants, shopping centers, theatres, and galleries.
