About Claremont Ingredients

Claremont is an independent UK flavour company based near Stoke on Trent in the West Midlands. We create and manufacture a complete range of liquid and powder flavourings for beverages, baked goods, ice cream and dairy products, sugar and chocolate confectionery and sports nutrition products. Our heritage in flavours goes back more than 30 years and draws on experience from all aspects of the food and flavour industries in a number of different countries. Role: NPD Technologist

Reports to: NPD Manager

Location: Claremont Ingredients (ST5 6SS)

Overall Purpose: Create and develop new and existing products for customers in support of the company’s sales strategy, ensuring only quality, safe and legal products are created and supplied. The Application Technologist is responsible for driving innovation for new and existing product and supporting the company’s growth.

Key Accountabilities And Tasks

  1. New product development, create formulations for customers and potential customers
  2. Analyse and consolidate market research and consumer insights
  3. Improve existing products, working to raw materials cost guidelines
  4. Build knowledge of relevant technologies and new ingredients in order to offer customers new solutions
  5. Product matching for example of existing market products
  6. Quality checks on flavours and colours – sensory testing, triangle tests, aroma tests and creating and recording sensory sheets
  7. Customer liaison as appropriate including customer visits and occasional attendance at exhibitions
  8. Create and despatch sample requests to customers
  9. Order samples and specifications from suppliers
  10. Preference testing
  11. Cleaning and maintaining standards of the equipment and the laboratory
  12. Any other duties commensurate with the role and within the role capability

Key Skills & Experience

  1. Science/Nutrition/Food Technology degree or equivalent
  2. Numerate and literate with excellent communication skills
  3. Able to deliver clear and concise ideas to both colleagues and customers
  4. Effective project management and planning skills
  5. Proactive and organised with strong time management, meticulous attention to details and a proven ability to multi-task
  6. Able to work well under pressure and deliver to strict deadlines
  7. Able to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision and thrive both on own initiative and as part of a team
