Job Summary:

A vacancy at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, hardworking, and experienced healthcare assistant has arisen on Ward 8C Diabetes and Endocrine. We are looking for a new Band 3 HCA to join our team caring for complex patients with a wide variety of needs, including acute and chronic illnesses.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate eagerness to learn and develop new skills, including recording observations and escalating abnormal parameters, recording blood glucose levels, venepuncture, cannulation, and simple wound dressings. The ability to show leadership among junior HCAs and work as part of a team is essential. Excellent communication skills and previous experience in an acute NHS hospital are also required.

Experience:
  • Experience as a Health Care Assistant at a minimum of band 2 required. Completing at least 2 years as a HCA in an acute setting.
Skills / Attributes:
  • Understanding of quality and change in the clinical setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients of varying understanding.
  • Present factual information and refer questions appropriately.
  • Deal with sensitive issues tactfully and diplomatically.
  • Understanding of nursing care organization.
  • Basic IT skills, including email.
  • Basic understanding of NHS issues.
  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues.
  • Record and take observations, escalate abnormal parameters.
  • Take blood glucose readings and escalate as needed.
  • Undertake simple wound dressings.
  • Provide leadership to junior colleagues, supporting RNs, B2 HCAs, and student nurses.
Physical Requirements:
  • Good attendance record.
  • Ability to perform a wide range of duties.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care under the direction of the Registered Nurse, applying and evaluating advanced clinical skills.
  • Assist in health care needs assessment using appropriate tools.
  • Support the evaluation of care and documentation alongside RGN.
  • Involve patients and carers in care delivery, providing reassurance and support.
  • Work collaboratively with ward colleagues to meet patient needs.
  • Recognize and respond to urgent and emergency situations.
  • Transfer and escort patients with moderate dependency as directed.
