Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA, ICAS or equivalent professional qualification.
• Significant external audit experience gained within practice.
• Experience working with charities, not-for-profit organisations, educational institutions or social enterprises.
• Knowledge of Charity SORP and sector-specific reporting requirements.
• Previous experience managing audit assignments and client relationships.
• Strong understanding of audit methodology, financial reporting and regulatory requirements.
• Experience leading and developing teams.
• Excellent project management and organisational skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Commercial awareness and a client-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Client Portfolio Management: Manage a diverse portfolio of charity and not-for-profit clients and act as primary day-to-day contact for clients.
• Audit Delivery: Lead audit engagements from planning through to completion and final sign-off, manage budgets and timelines.
• Technical Expertise: Provide guidance on charity accounting, reporting and governance matters; knowledge of Charity SORP and sector developments.
• Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach and develop Audit Seniors, Auditors and Trainees; review work and provide feedback.
• Business Development: Identify opportunities to add value, support proposals, tenders, and networking; work with audit, tax and advisory teams.
• Risk & Quality Management: Ensure compliance with quality control procedures and monitor engagement profitability and risks.

ROLE PURPOSE

Key duties & responsibilities:

Client Portfolio Management

• Manage a diverse portfolio of charity and not-for-profit clients.
• Act as the primary day-to-day contact for clients, building strong and trusted relationships.
• Develop a detailed understanding of clients' objectives, governance structures and operational challenges.
• Maintain regular communication with client stakeholders, trustees and senior management teams.

Audit Delivery

• Lead audit engagements from planning through to completion and final sign-off.
• Review audit files and financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting and auditing standards.
• Manage audit budgets, timelines and resource allocation.
• Ensure work is delivered to a high standard, on time and within agreed budgets.
• Identify and address audit risks, ensuring appropriate actions and recommendations are made.

Technical Expertise

• Provide technical guidance on charity accounting, reporting and governance matters.
• Maintain knowledge of Charity SORP requirements, audit regulations and sector developments.
• Support clients with complex accounting and compliance matters.
• Assist in resolving technical audit and financial reporting issues.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, coach and develop Audit Seniors, Auditors and Trainees.
• Review work completed by junior team members and provide constructive feedback.
• Support recruitment, onboarding and talent development initiatives.
• Promote a positive, collaborative and high-performing team culture.

Business Development

• Identify opportunities to add value and strengthen client relationships.
• Support the preparation of proposals, tenders and presentations.
• Contribute to networking events, sector activities and business development initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across audit, tax and advisory service lines to deliver integrated client solutions.

Risk & Quality Management

• Ensure compliance with internal quality control procedures and risk management requirements.
• Monitor engagement profitability and utilisation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across audit processes and client service delivery.
• Maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct.
