Job summary

Woodland Trust in the North of England is seeking a Head of Estate and Programmes to lead the regional estate team and drive strategic conservation initiatives across a multi-year programme. You will oversee major estate projects, manage budgets, and shape long-term plans in line with UK strategy while maintaining high standards and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading complex estates, large-scale programmes and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong knowledge of woodland, forestry, conservation and land management.
  • Experience managing significant budgets with value for money.
  • Leadership in health, safety, risk management and governance.
  • Ability to build strategic partnerships with funders, land managers and public bodies.
  • Understanding of England's land-use and forestry policy, especially in the North.
  • Strong project management and proficiency in MS Office and GIS.
  • HND/degree with ICF membership and driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic management of the woodland estate across the North, ensuring high professional standards and compliance.
  • Shape and deliver major estate-based programmes with cross-team collaboration.
  • Provide inspiring leadership to a multidisciplinary team and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Oversee multi-million-pound estate budget planning and governance for value for money.
  • Take responsibility for health, safety, risk management and operational excellence.
  • Develop North's long-term estate plans aligning priorities with the UK strategy.
  • Act as senior ambassador to partners, funders and land managers to maximise impact.
  • Champion innovation and cross-organisational knowledge sharing across the North.
