We are seeking a non-teaching SENCO to join the Senior Leadership Team and provide strategic leadership of our special educational needs provision. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring students with additional needs are fully supported and able to thrive both academically and emotionally in the education and training sector.

Salary: 39,179.00 - 42,654.00 Annually (Actual)

This Bedford school is an independent SEMH special school for up to 50 pupils aged 8-18, offering a nurturing environment for children and young people who have been disengaged from mainstream education. With a strong focus on emotional wellbeing and personalised support, we strive to provide an enriching experience for students-and a healthier work/life balance for staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development of the SEN policy and provision across the school
  • Maintain oversight of provision for pupils with SEN or disabilities, ensuring quality and consistency
  • Manage Annual Reviews and transition/destination planning
  • Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation with a focus on SEN provision
  • Collaborate with local authority SEN teams, psychologists, social care professionals, and external agencies
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all students in line with statutory guidance and school policies

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - essential
  • Minimum of 2 years' teaching experience
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete within 3 years of appointment, in line with the SEND Code of Practice)
  • Experience with self-evaluation, development planning, and leading training/INSET
  • Full UK driving licence - realiable commute to Bedford.
