Non-Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Biochemistry

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Non Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our highly skilled and motivated Pathology Blood Sciences Team at Harrogate District Hospital.

The Pathology team at Harrogate is highly regarded having an excellent reputation with service users. The focus of the department is on delivery of a high quality service with patients at the centre of everything we do. Our vision is to achieve excellence every time.

The team at Harrogate is small and friendly requiring a high degree of team work and co-operation from its members so candidates should be prepared to be part of the close knit environment fostered in the department.

The post would suit anyone who already holds the IBMS Registration Portfolio and HCPC registration or will achieve this in the next 3 months. The post will be based predominantly in the Biochemistry section. The individual must have a minimum of 3 months experience working in an NHS Blood Science department ideally Biochemistry.

Main duties of the job

Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion, and our Hospital Point of Care Testing team along with central reception makes up our Blood Sciences Department.

The Biochemistry Department has two Beckman AU5800 routine Biochemistry and two Beckman DXI800 Immunoassay analysers, an automate and a DxA FIT and track.

We also have a specialised Biochemistry section which carries out a number of manual and semi manual techniques using the following Sebia Octa 3, Sebia Hydrasys, Binding site Optilie, two Tosoh G8s, Advanced Instruments Osmo1, Sherwood chloride analyser, Wescor Sweat conductivity analyser, HM JACKarc, and a Cary 50 Bio spectrophotometer.

Following successful UKAS assessments all sections of Pathology are compliant with ISO15189:2022 standards and fully accredited. The department has excellent IT systems with ICE requesting & reporting, Clinisys Winpath LIMS, and Q Pulse quality management system.

Job responsibilities

The post is for up to 37.5 hours per week . Once competent the successful candidate will be required to carry out weekend working and working unsociable hours which attracts a substantially enhanced rate of pay with a hybrid on call local agreement.
