Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Non-Mechanical Technical Plant Supervisor at our Shotts depot. You will oversee day-to-day non-mechanical plant operations, ensuring assets are maintained and available to meet project needs, while coordinating with internal teams and clients.

You will plan workloads, supervise staff, and ensure all documentation is completed accurately. A proactive hands-on approach with strong safety practices is essential.

About the role

Balfour Beatty is looking for a Non-Mechanical Technical Plant Supervisor to join our Asset & Technology Solutions business at our Shotts depot.

In this hands-on role, you will oversee the day-to-day operation of our non-mechanical plant activities, ensuring assets are maintained, serviced and available to meet the needs of our customers and projects. You will work closely with internal teams, clients and supply chain partners to understand operational requirements, overcome challenges and deliver a right-first-time service.

You will plan and manage the daily workload, supervise team members and ensure all documentation and electronic records are completed accurately and on time. You will also provide practical workshop support when required.

What you'll be doing

As a Non-Mechanical Technical Plant Supervisor, you will:

• Plan, coordinate and supervise the daily workload within the non-mechanical plant operation
• Ensure assets are serviced and maintained in line with legislation, manufacturers’ requirements and agreed service intervals
• Take responsibility for work completed on plant and equipment, maintaining high standards of safety and quality
• Work closely with customers and project teams to understand their requirements and support asset availability
• Adopt a planned and proactive approach to maintenance, servicing and off-hire activities
• Supervise, support and develop team members, promoting effective teamwork and collaboration
• Assist with workshop and maintenance tasks when operationally required
• Ensure all work complies with health, safety and environmental legislation, company procedures and Balfour Beatty’s Golden Rules
• Maintain clean, organised and safe working areas in line with workplace standards
• Complete all required documentation and electronic records clearly, accurately and within agreed timescales
• Order parts, components and equipment as required, while helping to maintain appropriate stock levels
• Work with suppliers, inspection providers and internal teams to support statutory inspections and compliance
• Support the effective management of hire arrangements, equipment returns and damage controls
• Undertake relevant training to meet operational and business requirements
• Work flexibly, including weekday and weekend overtime when required

Who we're looking for

The successful candidate will have:

• Knowledge and practical experience of non-mechanical plant and equipment
• Experience maintaining and servicing non-mechanical equipment
• Previous experience supervising and managing team members
• The ability to read and interpret temporary works drawings
• A strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
• Good computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office applications
• The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, customers and clients
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider operational team
• A customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering a reliable, high-quality service
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise workloads
• A proactive, adaptable and hands-on approach to work
• Flexibility regarding working hours and activities
• A full UK driving licence

It would also be beneficial if you hold:

• An IOSH or similar safety qualification, or are willing to work towards one
• A relevant CSCS card
• A relevant professional or technical qualification
• CPCS Lift Supervisor or Appointed Person certification
• SMSTS certification
