Job summary

Stott and May are seeking a Non-Functional Testing Specialist to join a major technology transformation within a highly regulated financial services environment in London.   • Strong stakeholder management and ability to lead NFR strategy across squads.
  • Experience with Agile, DevOps, CI/CD and test automation.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute non-functional requirements across technology services.
  • Develop non-functional test strategies, plans and scenarios.
  • Act as SME for resilience and recovery.
  • Plan, prepare and execute resilience, disaster recovery, continuity, failover and performance testing.
  • Drive non-functional testing strategy across areas including performance, disaster recovery, failover, resilience, alerting, monitoring and profiling.
  • Work closely with architects, designers, technical teams and delivery squads to ensure NFRs are clearly defined and testable.
  • Provide hands-on technical support throughout NFR preparation and execution.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional and external teams to investigate bottlenecks, perform root-cause analysis and support resolution.
  • Document test results and produce clear, consolidated reports for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Translate technical findings into clear recommendations and advise business, design, infrastructure and development teams on resolution priorities.
  • Support a shift-left approach by embedding non-functional testing earlier within the development lifecycle.
  • Work across multiple delivery squads and take ownership of NFR delivery as the key point of contact.
  • Use TFS for tracking NFRs and associated dashboards.
  • Contribute to onboarding, training and the allocation of services across the NFT team.

Non-Functional Testing Specialist

Location: St Paul’s, London (Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite)

Salary: £85,000 – £90,000 base salary

The Role

We are looking for a Non-Functional Testing Specialist to join a new and dynamic team supporting a major technology transformation and modernisation programme within a highly regulated financial services environment. The role focuses on setting up and delivering non-functional testing environments and requirements, with a strong emphasis on resilience, recovery and fault tolerance.

The successful candidate will have practical experience across at least two non-functional testing domains, such as resilience, disaster recovery, failover, performance, alerting, monitoring, security or microservices.

You will work across multiple delivery squads, collaborating closely with architects, technical experts, analysts, Product Owners and infrastructure teams to define, prepare and execute NFRs throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define, translate and execute non-functional requirements across technology services.
  • Develop and articulate non-functional test strategies, approaches, plans and scenarios.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for resilience and recovery, ensuring services are prepared for real-world operational disruptions.
  • Plan, prepare and execute resilience, disaster recovery, continuity, failover and performance testing.
  • Drive non-functional testing strategy across areas including performance, disaster recovery, failover, resilience, alerting, monitoring and profiling.
  • Work closely with architects, designers, technical teams and delivery squads to ensure NFRs are clearly defined and testable.
  • Provide hands‑on technical support throughout NFR preparation and execution.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Hands‑on experience in non-functional testing across multiple domains.
  • Practical experience in at least two non-functional testing areas, with a strong focus on resilience, recovery and fault tolerance.
  • Hands‑on experience planning, preparing and executing resilience, disaster recovery, continuity, failover and/or performance testing.
  • Strong understanding of high‑availability architectures, infrastructure redundancy and backup/restore strategies.
  • Experience working within large-scale and complex technology implementations or transformation programmes.
  • Experience defining non-functional test approaches, plans and test cases.
  • Experience introducing non-functional testing early within the development lifecycle.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work confidently across multiple delivery squads and lead NFR strategy.
  • Ability to translate technical requirements and test results into clear, understandable information for non‑specialist stakeholders.
  • Experience working with Agile development practices, DevOps pipelines, continuous integration/deployment and test automation.
  • Familiarity with current NFR standards and regulated environments.
