This position not only allows for personal development in a dynamic environment but also offers competitive remuneration and travel support. Join a mission-driven team committed to impactful research and innovation.
About The Role
The National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) is looking for an independent, part-time, non-executive Director to join the NCEO Management Board (NCEO-MB). The NCEO is an internationally leading, distributed research centre with some 150 scientists from UK institutions, led by Professor John Remedios (University of Leicester). With an annual income of over £10 million per year, the NCEO provides a national, long-term and strategic national capability in Earth Observation (EO), namely the science of studying the Earth using satellites in space. We are a Research Institute of the Natural Environment Research Council, part of United Kingdom Research and Innovation, and working closely with UK government, space agencies and industry to deliver insight and impacts from satellite Earth Observation data.
The NCEO Management Board (NCEO-MB) supports the NCEO Executive Director in the oversight, strategic direction and assurance of the management of NCEO. Functions include development of strategy, scrutiny of NCEO management and performance, accountability to NERC and assurance to the stakeholders that the NCEO is delivering capability and sustainability.
Ideally with experience of managing in a complex organisation, with excellent business or public service insights and an interest in environmental, space or other science sectors, you should be able to demonstrate that you have the skills, interests and experience to help NCEO grow its capability, reputation and portfolio.
The Non-Executive Directors provide an important dimension to the NCEO-MB, bringing thoughtful insight, knowledge of key sectors, experience of organisational best practice, and networking capabilities that enable the NCEO-MB to deliver the NCEO mission. One such director is in post at the current time and this advert is to seek a second.
In return, as well as offering the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a new setting, we offer a remuneration package of £9,160 per annum, with an inflationary step each year (inclusive inc VAT where applicable) together with reasonable UK travel and subsistence costs (in line with organisational policies) for carrying out the role. The appointment is for a period of three years in the first instance, which may be extended for up to a further 36 months subject to an annual performance review.
Note that the subsequent contract will be awarded on the University of Leicester Terms & Conditions for Consultancy Services; the University of Leicester hosts the NCEO headquarters and acts on behalf of NCEO.
