Job description

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) is a leading healthcare provider in East Anglia, delivering high-quality integrated acute and community healthcare services. With a workforce of almost 12,000 dedicated staff, we serve a population of approximately one million people across Ipswich, east Suffolk, and north Essex, providing a range of specialised services and pioneering innovations such as robotic surgery. We now have the opportunity for a talented Non-Executive Director (NED) to join our Board.

As a progressive and ambitious organisation, ESNEFT is committed to delivering the best care and experience for our patients while working to reduce health inequalities. We have a strong track record of performance, consistently exceeding national and regional benchmarks, and we are currently implementing a clinically led digital transformation, including the introduction of our new Electronic Patient Record system, Epic, in October 2025. As an anchor institution, we take pride in our deep-rooted connection to our communities and our partnerships with local authorities, universities, and the voluntary sector to drive meaningful change in population health.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Work closely with Executive and Non-Executive Directors, sharing responsibility for the leadership, governance, and overall success of the Trust.
  2. Provide strategic insight, challenge, and support, ensuring that ESNEFT continues to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality care to the communities we serve.
Candidate Profile:

We are seeking values-driven leaders with the ability to bring fresh perspectives and contribute to diverse and constructive Board discussions. We encourage applications from the widest range of relevant backgrounds, with a commitment to improving patient outcomes with an alignment to our values being critical for all candidates.

This is an opportunity to influence transformation across ESNEFT and the wider health system, shaping the future of integrated care and making a tangible difference to the lives of our patients and communities.

We are committed to increasing the diversity of our Board to reflect the communities we serve. We therefore particularly welcome applications from groups currently underrepresented at Board level.
