Resource Futures supports our clients to embrace regenerative change. This means moving away from wasteful practices and towards circular models that actively contribute to a climate-positive, socially enriching, and economically resilient future. We help our clients and partners navigate this journey.

We are a company limited by guarantee, are non-profit-distributing and have a close-knit team of 50+ trusted employees who collaborate across various areas of the business. Employee-owned and independent, we’re all about helping each team member grow, and together striving towards our goal of creating a sustainable world.

We are passionate not only about what we do but how we do it, and we’re proud to be a part of the global B Corp movement to use business as a force for good.

Resource Futures is an organisation accelerating the shift towards a circular world: putting restorative practices of reuse, repair, recycling at the heart of the fight to address the climate crisis. Our multi-disciplined and connected approach sets us apart from the competition and enables us to build robust solutions that have a meaningful impact in the world. Our work spans Consultancy, Data and Communities. We help governments, businesses, NGOs,non-profits and community groups embrace regenerative change and rebalance their relationship with resources.

Our Consultancy work is shaping policy, developing circular initiatives, building better services and winning over hearts and minds. Our Data work is providing the data, intelligence and analysis needed to plan a less wasteful future. Our Communities work is empowering individuals, groups and organisations to take action to tackle vital environmental and resource challenges.

We are proud of what we do and our latest Impact Report, along with our website, gives a snapshot of the broad range of work we do across the company.

The opportunity

Resource Futures is looking for a new Non-Executive Director (NED) to join its Board of Directors. The current Board comprises of Kate Martin Bruintjes (NED Chair), Sam Reeve (CEO), Bethan Jones and Gwen Frost (Executive Directors) and Matt Crisp (NED). The vacancy is the result of our out-going NED, Jane Stephenson, having served her six years as allowed in our company rules.

We are looking for someone who can bring external insight from the world of business, with c-suite level experience in ESG and CSR, to challenge the Executive team and support the Board in working towards its vision, and implementing its business strategy.

This is a fantastic opportunity to broaden your network within the sustainability and circular economy sector. In joining our Board as a NED, you’ll be adding value to a company that prioritises people and planet; is driven to do business fairly and have a positive impact while committing to high standards.

What you will be doing

  • Attend bi-monthly in-person Board meetings (x6) and staff days (x2 per year) in person, in Bristol.
  • Bring relevant sector industry knowledge and perspective to the Board.
  • Provide an independent, external view and critical ‘friend’ to the Board and to participate fully in strategic decision making.
  • Advise on and take part in decisions regarding remuneration policies and salary structure including the remuneration group for Executive Director and CEO pay awards.
  • Promote the company externally to contacts as appropriate.
  • Undertake responsibilities commensurate with the position of a Company Director.

The essentials

We are looking for an individual who can bring a number of the following attributes to the role:

  • Experience of legal and governance issues around CSR and ESG.
  • Experience of working at C-suite level.
  • Financially astute and experienced in scrutinising business finance reports.
  • Willing and able to ask challenging questions and support the Board in directing change.
  • Commitment to sustainability and circularity.
  • The position is paid an annual salary of £6,250 (paid through PAYE). Expenses are paid for attending meetings – we encourage the use of low carbon travel where this is practicable.
  • Payment is for eight days per annum which covers six Board meetings and two staff days each year. Preparation time for meetings is included in the payment.
  • If the NED is written into delivery work with clients, this will be paid under a separate agreement treating the work under a consultancy sub-contractor arrangement.
