Job description

Roxel is an Anglo-French Company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £130M and over 900 staff.

Roxel has an exciting opening for a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Apprentice within our Test & Evaluation department. This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual to develop new skills and embark on a career with Roxel UK.

Understanding Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a specialized engineering field where technicians use non-invasive inspection methods to evaluate materials, welds, and components to ensure they meet required standards. The NDT Engineering Technician apprenticeship aims to equip you with the skills necessary to perform various NDT inspection techniques, manage projects, conduct audits, and utilize data analysis to solve engineering challenges related to materials, equipment, processes, and products.

Key Learning Activities for Aspiring NDT Engineers

  • Gaining technical and practical expertise in NDT and material testing techniques in accordance with national standards.
  • Performing radiographic and ultrasonic testing on both inert and energetic materials.
  • Evaluating radiographs and ultrasonic data based on component specifications.
  • Establishing radiographic and ultrasonic test parameters, including the calibration and operation of ultrasonic testing equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with customer requirements.
  • Preparing and reporting the results of tests, assessments, and examinations.
  • Adhering to and promoting safe working practices.
  • Conducting safety checks and maintaining records for radiographic equipment used on-site.
  • Supporting testing functions within the broader Test and Evaluation team.

Training Details

The selected candidate will pursue a Level 3 NDT Engineering Technician Apprenticeship over a period of 30 to 36 months through our training partner, Lavenders. The program will primarily consist of on-the-job training at Roxel, supplemented by online learning. Additionally, apprentices will attend residential sessions twice a year at Lavenders’ facilities in either Rotherham or Sheffield.

Other Information To Consider

  • Aged 18+ due to site requirements
  • To have consistently lived in the UK for at least 5 years
  • Candidates must also meet the minimum vision requirements, which include undergoing a visual acuity and colour perception test as part of the training provider’s conditions.
