Job summary

Babcock invites applications for a Non-Destructive Examination Engineer at HMNB Clyde Faslane. You will deliver inspection and QA across submarine maintenance, applying industry-leading NDE methods to identify defects and support engineering decisions.

Role demands PCN Level II qualifications, strong report writing, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure safety, quality and regulatory compliance. The position is full-time and site-based.

Qualifications

• PCN Level II Ultrasonics (3.1/3.2) required.
• At least one more PCN Level II qualification (Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Visual or Radiography) required.
• PCN Level II Advanced Radiation Safety desirable.
• CSWIP 3.0 or CSWIP 3.1 desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct non-destructive examinations per specifications and standards.
• Perform radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant and visual testing.
• Interpret inspection results and produce technical reports and documentation.
• Support maintenance and repair via defect identification and engineering assurance.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations and quality teams to maintain compliance.

The role

As aNon-Destructive Examination Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll play a vital role in delivering inspection and quality assurance activities across submarine maintenance and repair programmes. You'll work alongside experienced specialists, applying industry-leading inspection techniques to identify defects, support engineering decisions and help maintain the highest standards of safety and performance.

Day-to-day, you'll be required to:

• Conducting non-destructive examinations in accordance with applicable specifications, procedures and standards
• Performing inspections using radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant and visual testing techniques
• Interpreting inspection results and producing accurate technical reports and documentation
• Supporting maintenance and repair activities through defect identification and engineering assurance
• Collaborating with engineering, operations and quality teams to maintain compliance and continuous improvement

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday 07:15 - 16:45 and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.

Essential experience of the Non-Destructive Examination Engineer

• Experience working with non-destructive examination and inspection techniques
• Demonstrable understanding of inspection procedures, standards and quality requirements
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings clearly
• Ability to produce accurate reports and maintain inspection records
• Experience working within engineering, manufacturing, defence, nuclear, marine or highly regulated environments

Qualifications for the Non-Destructive Examination Engineer

• PCN Level II in Ultrasonics (3.1/3.2)
• Minimum of one additional PCN Level II qualification in one of the following: Penetrant Testing, Magnetic Particle , Testing, Visual Inspection, Radiography
• PCN Level II Advanced Radiation Safety - desirable
• CSWIP 3.0 or CSWIP 3.1 - desirable
