Overview

As a Noise Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping quieter, more community-conscious air travel. Responsibilities

As a Noise Engineer – Aviation, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Noise Modelling & Analysis: Utilize advanced tools to model and assess environmental noise and vibration from aviation operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to UK and international noise regulations, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Technical Design Support: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate noise control solutions into planning, design, and construction phases.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Present complex data in a clear and accessible manner to clients, regulators, and the public.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed technical reports, environmental assessments, and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Innovative Problem-Solving: Develop and implement creative solutions in partnership with airports, airlines, and planners.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget while fostering strong team collaboration.
Qualifications

Essential:

  • A degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in aviation acoustics and noise & vibration, ideally within consultancy or infrastructure environments.
  • Proficiency with noise modelling software and simulation tools.
  • Strong understanding of aviation operations and noise impact mechanisms.
  • Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace.

Desirable:

  • Membership or Chartership with a relevant professional body (e.g., IOA, IMechE).
  • Familiarity with residential sound insulation programmes.
  • Experience facilitating public consultations on noise mitigation.
  • Awareness of climate change impacts on future aviation acoustics strategies.
Day-to-Day

A typical day as a Noise Engineer – Aviation may include:

  • Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to review noise and vibration data.
  • Running predictive simulations to assess the impact of flight operations.
  • Meeting with regulatory bodies and community stakeholders to provide project updates.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports and acoustic recommendations.
  • Conducting site visits to monitor real-world sound levels.
