Role Purpose

As a NOC Engineer based out of London, you will join a small, high-performing global team responsible for 24x7 monitoring, incident response, and operational support of Subco’s international optical and IP networks. Working within a rotating shift roster, you’ll monitor network performance, resolve incidents, manage stakeholder communications, and execute change activities to ensure service continuity across critical infrastructure.

This role is operations-focused and sits within our global NOC structure, reporting to the Acting NOC Manager based in London, UK. You’ll work with industry-leading tools and systems and collaborate across continents to uphold the performance and resilience of SUBCO’s digital backbone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitor all network infrastructure, including fibre systems, optical transmission, IP routers/switches, and environmental telemetry using tools like MCP, Observium, and New Relic.
  • Triage and resolve network events and incidents in accordance with SLAs, escalating appropriately via Jira Service Management.
  • Maintain accurate and timely updates within incident and change tickets, including clear communication to internal stakeholders and external customers during outages or service degradations.
  • Participate in the change management process, including peer review and execution of MOPs to support routine maintenance and network upgrades.
  • Collaborate closely with Australian-based Engineers during shift handovers, ensuring full context and documentation are preserved.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying incident trends, participating in post-incident reviews (PIRs), and helping evolve monitoring rules and automation alerts.
  • Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, including runbooks, fault handling procedures, and change logs.
  • Adhere to and contribute to operational KPIs such as Mean Time to Restore (MTTR), SLA compliance, and incident response targets.
  • Assist in the training and onboarding of new team members as required.

About you

  • Qualification in Telecommunications Engineering (or actively working toward one), or equivalent experience in a network operations environment
  • Proven experience operating in a 24x7 NOC or network support function across IP and optical domains
  • Strong knowledge of transmission, long-haul, subsea, and optical networks (DWDM, MPLS, BGP, Ethernet)
  • Comfortable working across vendor platforms including Cisco, Ciena, Nokia, and Fortinet (routers, switches, firewalls)
  • Skilled in network performance troubleshooting and event triage within complex global network environments
  • Familiarity with Data Centre environments including rack management, power, and thermal considerations
  • Understanding of security compliance and physical access control processes within telecommunications facilities
  • Hands-on experience with service management systems (Jira Service Management or similar) across incident, change, and problem management workflows
  • Working knowledge of ITIL v3 or v4 principles including Service Operations and Service Transition
  • Competent in executing and reviewing Method of Procedures (MOPs) for planned work and changes
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting, and observability platforms such as Observium, MCP by Ciena, and New Relic
  • Clear and calm communicator with the ability to effectively manage customer expectations and internal escalations under pressure
  • Strong documentation habits, including incident summaries, PIRs, and shift handover reports
  • Able to collaborate within a small, globally distributed team; occasional international travel (e.g., annual HQ visit) may be required.
  • Self-motivated team player, adaptable to shift-based work and remote collaboration with global colleagues
  • Be involved in infrastructure projects that will prove critical to Australasia’s digital future
  • Work alongside globally recognised industry thought leaders, transforming the backbone of our digital ecosystem
  • Fully remote role working within an international team
