Overview

Afton Chemical Ltd is a major independent supplier of lubricant and fuel additives to the oil industry and part of the worldwide NewMarket Corporation. Our lubricant and fuel additives are among the most highly developed and widely used in the petroleum industry.

We have a rare opportunity for an experienced NMR Chemist to join our vital Analytical Non-Routine team.

As the ideal candidate, you will be self-driven with strong problem-solving skills, and have extensive experience of running, analysing, interpreting and reporting NMR data. As well as being a collaborative team member, you will be comfortable taking a lead on all NMR related queries/projects and be adept at managing changing priorities.

Responsibilities

Perform NMR analysis and interpret data for Afton and related chemistries in a timely manner to meet project deadlines.

Complete preliminary evaluations of data and liaise with internal customers regarding results and necessary characterizations. Complete special projects as assigned.

Participate in technical and/or project reviews and present findings as appropriate. Engage with assigned teams and cross-functional stakeholders, such as Business, Process and Marketing.

Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in accordance with NMR procedures. Ensure objectivity and accuracy in reporting and recording data. May direct the activities of team members as necessary and assure that adequate inventory/supplies are maintained.

Understand, comply and promote safe laboratory and work practices, including appropriate safety regulations and procedures.

Assure that complete documentation is maintained on ISO or Quality System related activities. Participate in Quality System related activities and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the Quality System functions & responsibilities.

Represent Afton in technical conferences, societies and other industry activities. Maintain adequate level of technical expertise and self-development through study, seminars, etc. Stay informed of advanced developments inside and outside of Afton.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry (or other relevant science field).
  • Demonstrable NMR experience at a level to be able to understand interpret and communicate results.
PREFERRED EXPEREINCE:
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of applicable chemistry and application in a research and development environment.
