Job summary

Police Digital Service is seeking an NMC Cyber Incident Responder to join the Cyber Incident Management team. Salary starting at £50,000 pa plus 10% shift allowance.

You will respond to immediate security threats affecting the client network and carry out incident investigation, threat triage, and proactive measures. You will work with staff across the organisation, coordinate with Shift Leads and Threat Intel Specialists, follow playbooks, and ensure timely engagement with national police

Qualifications

• Knowledge of security methodologies and ability to interpret cyber incident information.
• Understanding of threat landscape and impact on operations.
• Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
• Ability to work autonomously and on own initiative with attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first line of response for reactive cyber activity affecting the UK National Police Forces.
• Perform initial impact assessment of information, events and intelligence per playbooks.
• Engage stakeholders such as Shift Lead, Incident Lead or Threat Intel Specialist after assessment.
• Ensure initial engagement with national police forces and maintain situational awareness.
• Coordinate across teams to address security issues promptly.

Join Police Digital Service as NMC Cyber Incident Responder

Salary starting at £50,000 pa plus 10% shift allowance

As a member of the Cyber Incident Management team you will respond to immediate security threats that may impact our client network. You will be responsible for timely and appropriate action related to reactive / proactive cyber events, incident investigation and threat intelligence triage.

The NMC team’s goal is to detect, analyse, investigate, and respond to cyber security incidents using a combination of cutting-edge technology and a strong set of processes.

You will work with staff across the organisation, typically with cyber threat teams and client liaison officers to ensure security issues are addressed quickly upon discovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the first line of response for all reactive Cyber related activity regarding the UK National Police Forces
• Accountable for initial impact assessment of Information, events and Intelligence relating to forces, following playbooks and processes within a timely manner.
• Once Impact assessment is complete, responsible for engaging relevant stakeholders, e.g., Shift Lead, Incident Lead or Threat Intel Specialist
• Responsible for ensuring initial engagement direct with national police forces
• Must be in tune with situational awareness across national police forces. E.g., Change, Problem, Incident, Network Architecture, Critical Asset lists.

What you need to succeed in the role

• Knowledge of various security methodologies and processes.
• Ability to understand and interpret the available information during a cyber incident.
• Business acumen: Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including the impact of recommendations you make.
• Knowledge of the current Threat landscape and how it influences your direction when responding to those threats.
• Communication: Excellent ability to translate complex issues to the relevant audience, both verbally and written.
• A genuine enthusiasm and drive to work within Cyber Security Motivated and ambitious to work on your own initiative without needing direction
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task, prioritise, and manage time effectively
• Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanour
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
• Capacity to use analytical thinking to draw reasonable conclusions from various data sources, such as SIEM platform, Threat Intelligence and a spectrum of data logs, in support of a cyber incident.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working in a fast-paced operational environment
• Experience working within a team
• Experience in internal and external stakeholder management and engagement
• Foundation or Higher Degree in computer science or related subject, or relevant practical and transferable experience
• Completed Intelligence Analysis course (e.g., NIAT, RISC UK or similar) or willingness to work towards.
• Completed CompTIA Network+ and Security + or willingness to work towards

Working Arrangements

This is a Monday-Friday shift-based role.

All applicants must be eligible for NPPV3 and SC clearances. Successful applicants will require NPPV3 clearance to have been approved before starting with PDS.
