Background
- The new general practice commercial research fellowship provides ring fenced time (one day per week) to work with key partners (including the Research Delivery Network and Commercial Research Delivery Centres) to develop expertise in the design and delivery of commercial studies.
- Fellows will network widely with regional primary care, promoting and supporting the uptake of the commercial portfolio.
- Fellows will gain academic support and mentorship from Professor Clare J Taylor MBE, Professor of General Practice in the Department of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Birmingham. The department and university will also provide a supportive and nurturing environment.
- Fellows will have access to wider NIHR School for Primary Care Research training resources and be part of the wider Fellows network. They will also form a peer-support group, working with an experienced academic to enhance their career development.
Main Duties
- To develop expertise in the design and delivery of commercial studies.
- To work with key partners including the NIHR Research Delivery Network and Commercial Research Delivery Centres.
- To be a member of a new cohort of general practitioners with expertise in commercial research who together will: Establish new capacity in commercial research delivery in out of hospital settings. Increase the number of general practices participating in commercial research. Increase recruitment to commercial studies. Provide new capacity to support the adoption and roll out of commercial research. Develop new collaborations between industrial partners and primary care. Form and enhance partnerships with key stakeholders. Provide a key contact linking academic departments to key partners in the development and delivery of commercial research.
Person Specification
- Vocationally trained for general practice in the UK.
- Eligible for general practice in the UK.
- Experience of working in general practice in the UK.
- Understanding of the commercial research landscape.
- Ideally, experience of conducting academic/commercial/general practice research.
- Proven ability to organise a range of activities to deadline and quality standards.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for UK health research involving the NHS, , Good Clinical Practice, Ethics, HRA, MHRA approval processes; willingness to engage with any further training required for the role.
- Able to apply originality in modifying existing approaches to solve problems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
