Job summary

A high-output bakery in Nottingham is seeking a skilled Night Shift Engineer to join their team. In this role, you will ensure production runs smoothly, handle urgent breakdowns, and perform essential maintenance in a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 3 years' experience in engineering, particularly in food or FMCG sectors, and hold relevant engineering qualifications.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years' experience post-apprenticeship in a relevant field.
  • Experience in food or FMCG manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently during night shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to machinery faults and breakdowns swiftly.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) with high quality.
  • Support all production areas including mixers and ovens.
  • Enhance performance through reliability and improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and health standards.

I'm currently working with a well-established, high-output bakery in Nottingham that's looking for a skilled and motivated Shift Engineer to join their team on a permanent night shift (3 on / 3 off) schedule.

This is a brilliant opportunity to work in a fast-paced food production environment where quality, reliability, and attention to detail are top priorities. If the smell of freshly baked bread gets you going and you enjoy keeping complex machinery ticking over, this could be the role for you.

The Role:

As a Night Shift Engineer, you'll be the go-to person for keeping production running smoothly through the night. From handling urgent breakdowns to carrying out essential preventative maintenance and supporting continuous improvement across the site, your input will be crucial to ensuring every loaf, bun, and batch hits the shelves on time.

Your Typical Nights Will Include:

  • Swiftly responding to machinery faults and breakdowns to reduce downtime
  • Delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) with a methodical and high-quality approach
  • Supporting all areas of production, including mixers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging lines
  • Getting hands-on with reliability and improvement projects to enhance performance
  • Ensuring all work meets food safety, hygiene, and Health & Safety standards
  • Working closely with teams across Production, Technical, and HSE

We're Looking For:

  • A time-served engineer with 3+ years' experience post-apprenticeship
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
  • Previous experience in food, FMCG, or other fast-paced manufacturing environments, bakery experience is a bonus!
  • Engineering qualifications such as ONC / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • A proactive, calm approach and the ability to work independently during night shifts
