Job description

I'm currently working with a well-established, high-output bakery in Nottingham that's looking for a skilled and motivated Shift Engineer to join their team on a permanent night shift (3 on / 3 off) schedule.

This is a brilliant opportunity to work in a fast-paced food production environment where quality, reliability, and attention to detail are top priorities. If the smell of freshly baked bread gets you going and you enjoy keeping complex machinery ticking over, this could be the role for you.

The Role:

As a Night Shift Engineer, you'll be the go-to person for keeping production running smoothly through the night. From handling urgent breakdowns to carrying out essential preventative maintenance and supporting continuous improvement across the site, your input will be crucial to ensuring every loaf, bun, and batch hits the shelves on time.

Your Typical Nights Will Include:

  • Swiftly responding to machinery faults and breakdowns to reduce downtime
  • Delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) with a methodical and high-quality approach
  • Supporting all areas of production, including mixers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging lines
  • Getting hands-on with reliability and improvement projects to enhance performance
  • Ensuring all work meets food safety, hygiene, and Health & Safety standards
  • Working closely with teams across Production, Technical, and HSE

We're Looking For:

  • A time-served engineer with 3+ years' experience post-apprenticeship
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
  • Previous experience in food, FMCG, or other fast-paced manufacturing environments, bakery experience is a bonus!
  • Engineering qualifications such as ONC / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • A proactive, calm approach and the ability to work independently during night shifts

If you enjoy night work, thrive in a hands-on food production setting, and take pride in keeping the wheels turning, this could be your perfect next move.
