Job description

Medivet Skeldale Veterinary 24-hour Hospital in Thirsk is a thriving practice set in beautiful North Yorkshire. The practice has a history like no other; we are the original home of the one and only James Herriot (Alf White) and we pride ourselves on maintaining the historic client-focused ethos.

The practice is a large purpose-built building in Thirsk (although the old surgery in town is worth a visit) and is an RCVS practice standard scheme accredited hospital and emergency service centre, as well as being an ISFM gold level accredited cat friendly practice. This is a busy practice with a large client base where no two days are the same.

The recently refurbished practice consists of 3 large consult rooms, a large operating theatre, dog and cat kennels, an imaging suite consisting of digital radiograph, ultrasound, and endoscopy, dental X-ray, well-equipped prep area and a large waiting area. Across both the dedicated night and day teams, consist of multiple certificate holders in various disciplines among our vet and nursing teams.

The Night Nurse will work alongside our dedicated Night Veterinary Surgeon providing exceptional care to patients and clients on an out of hours emergency cover basis to a number of local clinics. With a high surgical and medical caseload, you will be able to fully utilise and develop your nursing skills.

This is a part-time 12 months fixed term position working a rota of 7 nights on / 14 nights off providing great work-life balance.

Role Accountabilities:

Exceptional care is at the heart of everything we do at Medivet. That’s the care for our patients, our clients and for each other – we really want to make a positive difference through every interaction we have. In this role you will:

  1. Consistently deliver exceptional care to your clients.
  2. Support with surgeries and procedures, completing all pre and post procedure activity.
  3. Carry out nurse led appointments and schedule 3 activities.
  4. Deliver patient monitoring and care.
  5. Manage admissions and discharges as directed by the Veterinary team.
  6. Dispense and check medication.
  7. Deliver professional excellence, complying with all regulatory, practice and operational standards.
  8. Hold briefings to engage and co-ordinate your team to support the most effective running of the practice.

Your Skills and Experience:

  1. RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse.
  2. Experience of delivering exceptional patient and client care.
  3. Experienced in working effectively as part of a team.
  4. Experience of supporting Nurse consults, with an understanding of how this contributes to practice performance and efficiency.
  5. Experienced in using coaching and influencing skills to get the best out of every colleague.
