Job description

Medivet Alfreton is a large, driven and dedicated team of ten vets, a fantastic head nurse, twelve nurses and five receptionists.

Many of the vet team are certificate holders or are in the process of gaining them (specialising in dermatology, surgery, internal medicine, emergency & critical care and ophthalmology). The practice is well-equipped with six consult rooms, separate dog and cat wards, three sterile theatres, separate suites for diagnostics, dental facilities, digital x-ray, two staff rooms and much more. Our hospital works to high standards throughout and is dedicated to delivering amazing client and patient care.

You will be working alongside a dedicated Night Vet Surgeon and have support from twilight staff for the first part of the shift and will be responsible for dealing with all out-of-hour care within both the hospital and the surrounding Medivet practices. This is based on a 5 Night on and 5 Night off rota 20:00 - 8:00.

Role Accountabilities:
Exceptional care is at the heart of everything we do at Medivet. That’s the care for our patients, our clients and for each other – we really want to make a positive difference through every interaction we have. In this role you will:

  1. Consistently deliver exceptional care to your clients.
  2. Support with surgeries and procedures, completing all pre and post procedure activity.
  3. Carry out nurse led appointments and schedule 3 activities.
  4. Deliver patient monitoring and care.
  5. Manage admissions and discharges as directed by the Veterinary team.
  6. Complete patient transfers to out of hours or enhanced care.
  7. Dispense and check medication.
  8. Deliver professional excellence, complying with all regulatory, practice and operational standards.
  9. Hold briefings to engage and co-ordinate your team to support the most effective running of the practice.

Your Skills and Experience:

  1. RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse.
  2. Experience of delivering exceptional patient and client care.
  3. Experienced in working effectively as part of a team.
  4. Experience of supporting Nurse consults, with an understanding of how this contributes to practice performance and efficiency.
  5. Experienced in using coaching and influencing skills to get the best out of every colleague.
