Job summary

Gist Limited, part of the M&S Group, invites applications for a Night Transport Shift Manager at our Barnsley operation. You will lead a night-time transport team, ensuring safe, efficient delivery while developing people and improving service levels.

The role requires FMCG distribution experience, hands-on leadership, and a proactive, data-driven approach. We offer a competitive salary up to £40,000 plus a £6,004 night shift premium, with 4 from 7 night pattern and generous benefits.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience in transport, preferably FMCG distribution.
• Management level experience is essential.
• Strong people management and development focus.
• Analytical mindset with ability to translate data into action.
• Collaborative approach with cross-team relationship building.
• Flexibility to work varying night shift patterns.
• Experience in unionised environments desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead transport operations and maintain safe, efficient night shift performance.
• Oversee recruitment, induction, absence management, wellbeing, and employee relations.
• Run effective team meetings, briefings, and communications across the operation.
• Drive KPIs to improve productivity, efficiency and service delivery.
• Promote teamwork, innovation, and experimentation to improve work practices.
• Champion health, safety, compliance and standards within transport operations.
• Collaborate with Transport Operations Manager on value-added initiatives.
