A well-established organization in East Sussex seeks a Sessional Specialist Domestic Abuse Night Support Worker. The role involves supporting female survivors of domestic abuse through structured activities and ensuring their safety during night shifts. Candidates must be women and possess experience in areas such as substance misuse and mental health.
Sessional Specialist Domestic Abuse Night Support Worker who has experience supporting service users in one or more of the following areas: Domestic Abuse, Substance Misuse, Offending Behaviour, Mental Health or Physical Health Problems and Homelessness is required to work as bank staff on a sessional basis for a well-established organisation based in East Sussex.
This role is known within the organisation as a Night Worker

SALARY: 13.38 per hour
JOB TYPE: Casual / Bank Staff / Sessional – must have flexibility to work as and when required
LOCATION: Bexhill, East Sussex
WORKING HOURS: Working 12-hour shifts, 8pm to 8am
Waking night from 8pm to 12am, then sleep in but with the need to respond to any incidents as required
JOB OVERVIEW
We have opportunities for casual / bank staff / sessional work as a Sessional Specialist Domestic Abuse Night Support Worker who has experience supporting people in one or more of the following areas: Domestic Abuse, Substance Misuse, Offending Behaviour, Mental Health or Physical Health Problems and Homelessness.
As the Sessional Specialist Domestic Abuse Night Support Worker you will provide evening activities, sleeping night cover and triage, assessment and induction at any time during a shift as needed, within a property of up to 12 female residents who are survivors of domestic abuse with multiple compound needs. Needs will include at the least three of the following:
• Domestic Abuse
• Substance Misuse
• Offending Behaviour
• Health Problems (physical and mental)
• Homelessness
Working as the Sessional Specialist Domestic Abuse Night Support Worker this will be achieved by:
• Delivery of structured and unstructured activities designed to support survivors achieve safe, secure lives free of domestic abuse
• Supporting safe community integration through the development of healthy professional and personal relationships
• Providing waking night cover between the hours of 20:00 to 00:00 with the need to respond accordingly to any telephone call/request or emergency during the period of sleep-in (normally from midnight)
• Ensuring that residents and the building are safe and secure throughout the shift, ensuring all significant events are appropriately recorded and communicated to relevant team colleagues, in line with procedures
DUTIES
Sessional Specialist Domestic Abuse Night Support Worker duties include:
• Undertake assessments of need and risk using a variety of tools to assess suitability for acceptance into the premises-based service
• Receive and translate partner agency assessments and data to triage and assessment plans
• Work as part of a team, including volunteers, engaging with survivors, to support safe re-integration into the community
• Review survivors’ well-being and take an active interest when on shift
• Assist with the induction of new residents
• Regularly engage with survivors in a pro-social manner, praising pro social behaviours and attitudes and sensitively challenging anti-social, aggressive or abusive behaviours
• Report any significant changes and share key information relating to risk of harm/and or reoffending or any non-compliance within agreed enforcement procedures
• Maintain an active waking presence, undertaking regular inspections of the building, including the grounds throughout the period of duty
• Assist with room inspections
• Adhere to Health and Safety legislation
• Where required, follow prescribed medication procedures
• Provide appropriate First Aid if a resident is injured or self-harms
• Act as Fire Warden
• Maintain records and files as required
• Participate in handover briefings at the beginning and end of each shift
REQUIREMENTS
Essential

• Good numeracy and literacy skills
• Experience of working with a diverse range of people who have experienced a range of social/personal difficulties including substance misuse, mental health challenging and housing issues
• Good understanding of domestic abuse
• Experience of working with Microsoft Word, Outlook and basic Excel
• An understanding of safeguarding
• Able to work alone, without guidance
• Work on a shift which covers days and weekends
• Casual / Bank Staff / Sessional – must have flexibility to work as and when required
• Being empathic, with the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues
Desirable
• Previous experience of working within a residential setting
• Previous experience of working with women
• Experience of working with groups or individuals in order to support, motivate and change behaviour
• An understanding of factors relating to multiple, compound needs
• Knowledge and experience of the work within the Criminal Justice System
• Hold an IDVA qualification
This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check with the additional barred list check. All required checks will be undertaken as part of the pre-employment process for any successful candidate.
