Job description

Location: The Bridges, Hull

Salary: GBP 24,071 per annum, plus benefits

We are recruiting for a Night Support Worker.

The Bridges is Forward's residential substance misuse treatment centre in Hull for people of all genders over the age of 18 who have committed to remain abstinent from drugs and alcohol. We provide a structured 3 to 6 month treatment programme based on the 12-step principles of Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous, incorporating Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and the Seeking Safety approach.

This programme has proven successful in giving dependent substance users the skills, attitudes, and behaviour change necessary to maintain abstinence and develop long-term sustainable recovery.

Role Responsibilities

The Night Support Worker will work on a 3 on 3 off rota, with a minimum of 33 hours per week, providing waking night cover for the unit. Responsibilities include supporting individuals accessing treatment at The Bridges, managing medication access, providing brief individual interventions, and facilitating structured interventions during the evenings.

As this is a lone working role, the post holder must work independently, utilizing on-call support as necessary. Attention to security, health and safety, and risk management are key aspects of this role.

The Ideal Candidate

Applicants should address each of the following essential qualities in their application:

  • Experience of administering medications
  • Good IT and communication skills
  • Strong observational and reporting skills
  • Ability to work independently using own initiative
  • Understanding of and commitment to equality and diversity, confidentiality, health and safety
  • Ability to engage effectively with clients, maintain professional boundaries, resolve conflicts, and work with challenging behaviour

Desirable qualities include:

  • Knowledge of the 12-step recovery process from addiction
  • Experience working with criminal justice system clients
  • Experience in residential rehabilitation or similar settings
  • Experience delivering therapeutic groups
