At Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities across England.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference in residents' lives by helping to improve their daily living skills. Passionate about people, you will enjoy opportunities to develop your own life and career, gaining experience and training to progress with us.

Where will I be working?

Our services in Thornton provide 24-hour care for adults with Learning Disabilities and additional health issues.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. We are a group of four people with a learning disability who live together and have done so for several years. We each have individual interests but also enjoy spending time together. We need support to participate in activities inside and outside our home. We are looking to welcome two more people who share similar interests and support needs.

Desirable but not essential – experience within the supported living/care sector.

Please note: this service supports people with complex learning disabilities, involving high levels of personal care.

Training and Development

We offer training to develop your skills and competencies, not only in care but in other areas as well:

  • Level 2 and 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
  • Level 3 Operational Team Leader

Training is provided after your probation period of 6 months. You will be supported by a coach throughout your training.

Shift Patterns

This is a night position with shifts from 20:30 to 07:15.

Role Responsibilities

What will I be doing?

Daily support we need from you:

  • Assisting with personal care needs
  • Preparing food with or for residents
  • Supporting residents with food and drinks
  • Supporting with medication, including creams and lotions
  • Maintaining high standards of record keeping, including financial records for audits
  • Helping manage residents' money safely
  • Keeping the home clean and tidy
  • Ensuring health and safety standards are met
  • Providing engaging and varied activities
  • Liaising with the landlord regarding tenancies and repairs

What skills and qualities do I need?

Knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs is essential. You should also be:

  • Passionate, caring, and enthusiastic
  • Flexible, patient, and non-judgemental
  • A great team player with energy
  • Good at communication, including understanding non-verbal cues
  • Physically capable of manual handling tasks
  • Experienced in helping manage anxiety

Salary: £23,808 based on 37 hours, £28,995 based on 45 hours, or £12.34 per hour.
