Job summary

Gooch & Housego (G&H) is seeking an experienced CNC Diamond Turning Operator for a full-time night shift in the UK. You will set up and run CNC diamond turning machines to produce ultra-precision optical components, while achieving sub-micron tolerances and nanometre-level finishes.

Role requires interpreting precise drawings, selecting diamond tooling, and working closely with engineering and metrology teams to support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Proven experience operating CNC single point diamond turning machines or other CNC turning.
CNC programming skills with G-code and controls (desirable).
Experience working with ultra-precision materials (e.g., aluminium, copper, nickel-phosphorus, optical polymers).
Strong understanding of tolerances, form accuracy and surface roughness.

Responsibilities

Interpret drawings, CAD data and surface finish specs.
Set up and operate CNC diamond turning machines.
Achieve nanometre surface finishes and sub-micron tolerances.
Conduct first-off, in-process and final inspections using precision metrology.
Maintain production and inspection records.
