Night Shift Supervisor – Transport Operations

Salary: £35,000 per annum

Hours: 21:00–06:00, Monday to Friday

Location: Robertsbridge

Contract: Temporary (Temp to Perm for the right candidate)

Overview

Lead and coordinate night shift transport operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effective execution of the daily transport plan. Act as the central point of contact between drivers, office staff, contractors, and customers, while maintaining high standards of communication, compliance, and performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee shift operations including shunting, loading bay, weighbridge, and yard marshalling
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety standards, site rules, and emergency procedures
  • Report incidents and unsafe conditions promptly
  • Maintain hygiene standards across operational areas
  • Lead and support the transport office team, managing training, attendance, and performance
  • Monitor and optimise service delivery, cost control, and productivity
  • Conduct driver briefings and ensure compliance with Tachomaster and telemetry systems
  • Manage contractor safety, call-outs, and admin
  • Plan and adjust staffing, including agency liaison and recruitment
  • Handle payroll input, hours tracking, and productivity analysis
  • Escalate and investigate incidents, manage vehicle checks, MOTs, and VORs
  • Perform safety walks, audits, and hazard spotting
  • Manage return-to-work processes, absences, and disciplinary actions
  • Use SAP and other systems for data entry and reporting
  • Represent the site in cross-site communications and calls
About You

Essential:

  • Ideally you will have some experience of leading processes and/or people.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be an active decision maker
  • Good standard of English Language
  • You must have access to your own transport – due to our clients location.

Desirable:

  • Leadership and supervision experience
  • Previous experience within a Transport environment
  • Administrative skills
  • Trailer/vehicle anatomy
