Job summary

Alexander Steele Recruitment are partnering with an established Hertfordshire-based food manufacturer to recruit an experienced Shift Production Manager for the night shift. The role focuses on hands-on leadership, overseeing production, food safety and team performance.

Responsibilities include leading health and safety initiatives, HACCP/GMP compliance, and driving efficiency through TLC tools, while coaching Team Leaders to deliver reliable results and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading night shift production operations.
• Strong understanding of health and safety requirements in a food factory.

• Oversee health and safety agenda, investigate accidents and close out incidents.
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP and GMP with QA team.
• Monitor KPIs (OEE, labour hours, delivery targets) and drive efficiency via TLC tools.
• Manage labour, raw materials and production costs; produce daily variance reports.
• Coach and develop Team Leaders and Setters to maintain high performance culture.
• Manage absence, lateness and holidays with fair, transparent processes.

Alexander Steele Recruitment are working with an established food manufacturing business based in Hertfordshire, who are seeking an experienced Shift Production Manager to join their team.

This is a hands‑on leadership role, overseeing night shift production, food safety and team performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the site's health and safety agenda, investigating and closing out accidents, near misses and RIDDOR reports to eliminate risk
• Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP, GMP and product specifications, working closely with the QA team
• Oversee day‑to‑day production, holding daily briefings with team leaders to review performance and resolve operational issues
• Monitor KPIs including OEE%, labour hours and delivery targets, driving efficiency through Total Lean Culture (TLC) tools
• Manage labour, raw material and production costs, producing daily variance reports and identifying cost‑saving opportunities
• Lead, develop and coach a team of Team Leaders and Setters, fostering a collaborative, high‑performance culture
• Drive employee engagement, ensuring fair and transparent management of absence, lateness and holiday
• Conduct performance reviews and development plans, supporting continuous improvement and career progression

• Up to £44,500 p.a. - depending on experience
