We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Nurse or Registered General Nurse role at HMP Lewes to join our team. HMP Lewes is a category B male prison. Lewes prison is based near the centre of the historical town of Lewes, which is just a 5 minute walk away.

Hours: 37.5 hours a week working Monday - Sunday 7pm-07.30am. The working pattern is 3 shifts x 11.5 per week for three weeks and 4 shifts x 11.5 every fourth week.

Salary

You will receive an annual salary up to £52,259 per annum - depending on experience

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Mental Health Nurse you will:

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse led service and prevent hospital admissions
  • Undertake medication rounds and dispense controlled medication
  • Attend emergency response situations
  • Assess patients and undertake reception screening
  • Assess patients health needs using an evidence based framework and be able to risk assess with sound clinical knowledge
  • Ensure that you assess physical and mental health of prisoners on admission to the prison and throughout custody so that any appropriate referral can be made
  • Be responsible for making a clinical judgement with regard to any immediate need and long term treatment

Qualifications required

Registered nurse Mental Health or RGN. Current professional qualification (NMC). Evidence of Continued Professional Development. Experience of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working. A non-judgmental and compassionate approach. Understanding of mental health policy including clinical governance and the quality and outcomes framework, along with national standards such as NICE.
