Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Job description

Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists is a large multidisciplinary referral hospital providing veterinary referral services across the South of England including London and the Thames Valley. Our specialist services include Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Orthopaedic surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Cardiology, Emergency and Critical Care, Oncology, and Diagnostic Imaging. The hospital is an ISFM gold feline clinic and was awarded the BVHA design award for an outstanding working environment. We are part of CVS (UK) Ltd, the largest provider of integrated veterinary services in the UK; the referrals division currently operates eight referral hospitals in the UK and Ireland.

We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic RVNs to join our Referral night nursing team. This role incorporates inpatient care and emergency and critical care on an out of hours basis, seeing a variety of cases while working alongside our specialists and wards RVN team. The core night hours are 20:00 – 08:30, but alternative shift patterns can be discussed. In addition to other night RVNs, the night team is supported by one of our rotating interns who is on-site, and multiple specialists on-call.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring a high standard of nursing care and appropriate attention for the inpatients and emergency patients admitted out of hours.
  • Administering treatments and medications as directed by our specialist clinicians.
  • Comprehensively communicating with all disciplines to ensure patient treatment plans are in place and correct.
  • Answering incoming telephone calls professionally and applying the appropriate action to each call.

We have an 8-week induction process to help you settle into your new role, get to know the team, and support any further training you may feel necessary.

We offer an exceptional remuneration package including 5 weeks annual leave pro rata plus bank holidays, an enhanced contributory pension, and a competitive salary commensurate with experience among other benefits.

We are deeply committed to supporting the well-being of our staff. Our wellness program includes an Employee Assistance Programme with Health Assured, an optional health shield cash plan, Mental Health First Aiders, and Wellbeing Champions within the practice. We also have a refresh fund that provides breakfast mornings, among other initiatives.

Furthermore, we support further career progression with a generous CPD (Continuing Professional Development) allowance and associated time off. CVS provides a wide range of internal CPD courses, not exclusively focused on clinical work, allowing those interested in diversifying their skill set to benefit. Additionally, there are opportunities for clinical research and teaching.

We are committed to providing a good work-life balance and therefore we are open to discussions regarding working patterns and hours.

CVS is committed to being a fully inclusive place to work where all our colleagues are encouraged and supported to be themselves, where difference is celebrated and where everyone feels able to deliver their best. We are also determined to build a workforce that is more representative of our diverse communities and the people we provide our services to.
