Job summary

Charlie Bigham's in Wells is seeking a Night Hygiene Lead to oversee hygiene, safety and standards across our production area while leading a dedicated team on 6pm-6am shifts.

You will coach, plan resources, ensure audits and inspections, and drive continuous improvements in order to deliver top-quality meals and maintain audit-ready environments every day.

Qualifications

• Experience in food production, manufacturing, hygiene or FMCG environments.
• Strong understanding of Food Safety, Health & Safety and quality standards.
• Experience leading, coaching or developing a team is desirable but not essential.
• Good IT skills and the ability to handle administration.
• Strong problem-solving skills and proactive approach.
• Passion for developing people and building high-performing teams.
• Excellent communication with colleagues at all levels.
• Ability to manage priorities and stay calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate the hygiene team to maintain high standards of hygiene, safety and operations.

Producing thousands of meals every day demands exceptional hygiene standards, and we're looking for a Night Hygiene Lead to help drive them. Leading a dedicated hygiene team, you'll take ownership of standards, safety and performance across our production areas. From coaching and developing your team to planning resources, managing priorities and ensuring compliance, you'll be instrumental in creating a clean, safe and audit‑ready environment every day. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading from the front, building high‑performing teams and making a visible impact. As a Night Hygiene Lead, you'll have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills while helping us deliver the exceptional quality Charlie Bigham's is known for.

Working Hours

4 on, 4 off | 6pm - 6am

Role Responsibility

• Leading and motivating your team to deliver exceptional hygiene, safety and operational standards every shift.
• Delivering team briefings, setting clear priorities and ensuring a positive start to the day.
• Managing labour, breaks, holidays and resources to ensure your team is set up for success.
• Supporting, coaching and developing team members through regular feedback, training and performance reviews.
• Working closely with Team Leaders, Managers and support teams to deliver the daily plan safely and efficiently.
• Ensuring compliance with food safety, GMP, 5S and Health & Safety standards through regular audits and checks.
• Maintaining high quality standards and escalating any concerns promptly to the relevant teams.
• Identifying and solving problems quickly to minimise disruption and keep operations running smoothly.
• Liaising with internal teams to resolve equipment issues and maintain productivity.
• Driving continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve performance, efficiency and ways of working.
• Monitoring area performance and ensuring production targets, throughput and efficiency standards are achieved.
• Supporting succession planning and helping develop future talent within the team.

Package Description

We're looking for a Night Hygiene Lead to help drive high standards, support a successful team and play a key role in keeping our production environment operating at its best. This opportunity could be ideal for you if you're already leading people in a manufacturing, hygiene, warehouse or production environment and are looking for your next challenge. Equally, if you've gained some supervisory experience and are ready to step into a leadership role. Candidates may be appointed internally as either a Trainee Team Leader or Team Leader, with salary offered accordingly.

What You'll Receive

• Competitive pay of £20.14 - £21.22 per hour, including all premiums (equivalent to over £43,000 - £46,000+ per year, depending on experience )
