Job description

Hours: 37 hours per week

Salary: £46,625 - £51,287 (SCP 41-45)(+ 1/3 for unsocial hours)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Night Duty Manager is the core of Rossie's night-time operations, ensuring young people's safety, well-being, and positive experience. By combining strong leadership, effective care coordination, and the ability to manage night-shift operations, the Night Duty Manager creates a supportive environment where young people feel respected, cared for, and empowered to reach their full potential:

  • To assume full operational responsibility as Duty Manager, ensuring the safety and well-being of young people and employees throughout the night.
  • To oversee the implementation of Rossie's policies and procedures to maintain a secure and caring environment.
  • To lead the continuous improvement of care services for young people during the night shift.
  • To coordinate the effective delivery of care plans and services, ensuring they meet the individual needs of each young person.
  • To provide effective leadership, supervision, and motivation to Night Care Workers.
  • To foster a positive and supportive work environment that promotes employee development and well-being
  • Safeguarding and Security:

    • Foster a safe and secure environment where young people feel respected and protected
    • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures that safeguard young people's rights
    • Implement appropriate security measures to minimise risks and protect young people from harm

    Quality Care Delivery:

    • Lead the implementation of individualised care plans for each young person during the night-time
    • Ensure Night Care Workers are familiar with care plans and bedtime routines, and identify situations where bedtime plans require adjustment
    • Oversee well-being checks and conduct regular well-being audits throughout the night
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care provided

    Team Leadership and Development:

    • Provide effective leadership and support to your team of Night Care Workers
    • Foster a positive work environment, and support the implementation of Rossie's policies and night-time objectives
    • Collaborate with the Learning and Development Team to identify and meet training needs
    • Conduct regular supervision, appraisals, and performance reviews, providing constructive feedback to support employee development
    • Ensure clear and open communication between Night Care Workers, House/Day employees, and managers

    Continuous Improvement:

    • Promote Rossie's commitment to continuous improvement in care provision
    • Stay up-to-date on developments in residential childcare/social care sector and share relevant information with colleagues
    • Contribute to service improvement initiatives/planning and the key performance indicators within the Rossie Business Plan

    Duty Manager Responsibilities:

    • Monitor the safety and security of both young people and employees throughout the night
    • Be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the campus, managing the facilities during the night shift including reporting of any urgent maintenance issues
    • Respond to incidents effectively, providing debriefing and support to employees as needed
    • Ensure risk assessments are conducted for planned movements or emergencies involving young people
    • Authorise (or deny) movements of employees and young people based on risk assessments, care plans and shift planning
    • Make informed decisions regarding matters relating to young people and support care employees with appropriate decision-making
    • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with relevant managers

    Administrative duties:

    • Responsibilities for resource and scheduling/rota management for the care services
    • Quality assurance of night care reports, and incident forms and ensuring accurate handover information

    PERSON SPECIFICATION:

    Qualifications (Essential):

    • HNC/HND Social Care
    • Dip SW, CQSW, CSS
    • NVQ/SVQ Level 4 in Social Care/Leadership and Management

    Qualifications (Desirable):

    • Post Qualification (e.g. Child Protection) Management
    • Registered Managers Award
    • CALM Instructor

    Knowledge Base (Essential):

    • Relevant Health and Social Care legislation
    • National policy/research/legislation relating to wider Child Care agenda
    • Quality Care Standards Framework
    • Child Protection procedures and safeguarding protocols
    • Care planning and risk assessment
    • Child and adolescent development and the effects of trauma, abuse and adversity/poverty
    • Intervention models and application of positive behaviour support
    • Policies and procedures required within a childcare setting including The Promise, Secure Care Pathways and Standards and Care Inspectorate Secure Care Quality indicators
    • Code of Practice for Employers and Employees as published by the SSSC
    • Developing and managing strategies to advance the skills and competence of employees

    Experience (Essential):

    • 3 years in a relevant care-related environment
