Job summary

Aberdeen City Council is seeking a part-time role at Aberdeen City Music School to provide high-quality care for young people living in the hall of residence. The post requires PVG membership eligibility and relevant qualifications in social care or youth work.

You will work as part of a team to keep records, communicate effectively, and advocate for vulnerable young people. Flexible working arrangements are on offer; the council promotes equality and inclusive employment.

Qualifications

  • SSSC/GTC registration or willingness to become a member.
  • PVG membership costs may be recovered from the first full month’s salary for eligible roles.

Location: Aberdeen City Music School, Halls of Residence,
Duration: Permanent, Part Time

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 10 and above (currently £30,030 per annum / £16.50 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee's first FULL month's salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

To work as part of a team and take responsibility for the delivery of high-quality care to the young people who board (term-time) at Aberdeen City Music School Hall of Residence. To provide a safe, consistent, and caring environment that encourages and nurtures young people to develop positively and achieve their full potential

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
  • SSSC/GTC Registration or willing to become a member
  • Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) A SVQ Level 3 (Children and Young People) and HNC in Social Care or a social work or equivalent registerable qualification (See SSSC website) is preferable, but not essential
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
  • Working with young people
  • Keeping clear and accurate records
  • The ability to make decisions and take responsibility for own practice, seeking advice and support as necessary
  • Good practice; recognising support needs, promoting dignity and respect and
    exhibiting unconditional positive regard
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with young people, their families and other stakeholders
  • The ability to advocate on behalf of young people by ensuring that their views are
    taken into account and that their rights are promoted and protected
  • The ability to produce high quality written records and reports
  • Good ICT skills
