Job description
Overview

The role of the Neonatal Nurse is to work under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Nursing Leadership Team to deliver safe and effective quality care. The post holder will provide effective family centred nursing care underpinned by evidence based practice.

Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the continued assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care for babies admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit.
  • Manage a group of patients on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Support teaching and supervision of all members of the team and pre-registration nursing students.
  • Present a positive, professional image of the organisation and of the nursing team.
  • Be responsible for updating own knowledge and skill in line with Trust policies and procedures and NMC Code.
  • Be able to work safely within boundaries of own knowledge and skills, and as part of the wider nursing team and allied professionals.
  • Be flexible and responsive to the ever changing needs of a Level 3 Neonatal Unit, and be willing to work in all clinical areas caring for babies and their families requiring transitional, special, high dependency and intensive care.
