CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) to recruit for two Architect (HPTO/SO Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract with possibility of extension.

Benefits – 37 days holiday per annum

Hours – 37 hours per week

The main roles and responsibilities of the post are as follows:

  1. Assisting with the achievement of targets related to the Second Survey of buildings of special architectural or historic interest and providing high-quality expert advice to owners, agents, and Councils.
  2. Assisting in the surveying of buildings and evaluating records related to survey work, and preparing recommendations for submission to the Historic Buildings Council regarding listing proposals and de-listings.
  3. Providing expert input on architectural interest for the ongoing survey of historic buildings in Northern Ireland and the management, maintenance, conservation, setting, and reuse of historic buildings, monuments, sites, and features, in line with legislation and policy.
  4. Maintaining the capacity of HED to carry out or procure architectural surveys, research, and recording of historic features, utilizing new technology as appropriate.
  5. Managing photographic recording facilities for historic features and developing archives, including designing exhibitions and publications.
  6. Developing key management areas related to the postholder’s expertise, such as protection of historic buildings through advice to Planning Service, and providing evidence and input for planning inquiries, appeals, and enforcement cases.
  7. Providing professional advice to the public, public bodies, and management on matters concerning historic buildings, monuments, sites, and features.
  8. Maintaining and upgrading archives like the Buildings Database and the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland, and making this information accessible to staff, NICS, and the public.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Be on the live register of the Architects Registration Board (ARB) of the UK.
  • At least 1 year of post-registration experience in architecture practice.
  • Full driving licence valid for Northern Ireland and access to transport to perform duties.

Applicants with relevant formal qualifications considered equivalent or higher may also apply.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of conservation practices, e.g., BS Principles of the Conservation of Historic Buildings.
