To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

Please note we anticipate a high level of interest in this position and may close the vacancy early once a sufficient number of applications are received. Therefore, please ensure you complete and submit your application early.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e., child and/or adult), then an application must be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before starting in the role.

We are looking for a talented and creative professional to help tell the story of NHS Lothian; Scotland’s second-largest health board, serving a local population of 800,000 and providing specialist services nationally.

You will have the opportunity to promote NHS Lothian’s innovative health treatments and care, celebrate the achievements of our 26,000 staff, and support our ongoing response to challenges across the NHS.

The communications team covers every aspect of the organisation, offering variety and engagement. You will create multimedia content, manage social media channels, publicise innovations, generate stories and media releases, facilitate VIP visits, and support communication needs across teams.

This role is ideal for a team player with a positive attitude who enjoys variety, builds good relationships, and thrives in a large, complex organisation.

You Will Need

  • Proven experience in communications, PR, or journalism
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of social media tools and the ability to generate engaging digital content
  • The ability to produce accurate work under tight deadlines
  • Experience working on various projects and with different teams
  • Knowledge of or curiosity about the potential of AI in communications
