Job summary

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust is welcoming applications for an NHS Locum Consultant General Surgeon.

You will provide benign general surgical and upper gastrointestinal surgical services to the community served by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Trust and play a key role with colleagues in further developing general surgical services.

You will work alongside consultant colleagues in general surgery, involving in-patient and out-patient work, and share in the on-call rota.

This post supports the development of the General Surgery service. All staff support and ancillary facilities are in place, including office space with dedicated computer and IT facilities, and medical secretarial support.

We welcome informal visits and enquiries.

Main duties of the job
  1. To provide a general surgical service, including elective activity and 1 in 9 on-call emergency cover for general surgery.
  2. To provide elective surgical services.
  3. Consultants are responsible for patient care and departmental funding, undertaking necessary administrative duties.
  4. To provide outpatient services for new referrals and ongoing care.

Qualifications
  • Essential: MBBS or equivalent, FRCS or equivalent
  • Desirable: MD, PhD, or equivalent training and experience
Entry Criteria
  • Essential: Full GMC registration and license to practice, training and interest in elective and emergency general surgery, ability to independently manage emergency care for pediatric and adult patients, broad clinical skills, meets the Specialist capabilities framework
  • Desirable: GI endoscopy skills, GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT/CESR
