Job summary

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant - Technical Accounts to lead the preparation of statutory NHS accounts, Provider Financial Returns and accompanying working papers for timely and compliant reporting. You will manage the GL, VAT and provisions, ensuring accuracy and full disclosures.

The role requires CCAB finalist status, advanced Excel skills, NHS finance experience and the ability to advise both finance and non-finance

Qualifications

• Professional CCAB accountancy finalist or equivalent.
• Theoretical knowledge of accounting systems.
• Knowledge of accounting and reporting standards (including IFRS).
• Committed to CPD and enabling CPD in others.
• Significant experience in technical financial accounting within a large, complex organisation.
• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
• Experience advising finance and non-finance managers on financial matters.
• Staff management and leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational support to the Senior Financial Accountant - Technical Accounts for statutory/NHS accounts and monthly returns.
• Maintain the General Ledger integrity and effective trial balance coding.
• Lead Provisions and Special Payments reporting with National guidance alignment.
• Advise on contentious or unusual transactions and IR35 disclosures.
• Prepare monthly statistics and BI outputs for Senior Management.
• Oversee VAT returns, GRNI, and accruals processes.
• Input to annual accounts and respond to audit queries as directed.
• Lead automation and AI/RPA initiatives within Finance.
