Job summary

Ambition is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to join our Not-for-Profit division in London. You will manage a diverse charity client portfolio and deliver high-quality audits tailored to each organisation's structure and mission.

You will lead engagements from planning through to final completion, mentor seniors and trainees, contribute to business development, and stay up to date with charity accounting developments within a collaborative, supportive team that values flexibility.

Job description

For an audit professional with a genuine interest in the not-for-profit sector, this is a rare opportunity to build something meaningful.

Our client is a well-established, partner-led accountancy practice with a substantial and highly regarded Not-for-Profit division, acting for a large portfolio of charities and third sector organisations across a broad range of sub-sectors. They are now looking for an experienced Audit Manager to join their close-knit team, manage a varied client portfolio, and help deliver genuinely impactful work for organisations that are making a difference.

What you'll be doing

• Managing a diverse portfolio of charity and not-for-profit clients with annual incomes ranging from £250,000 to £15 million, delivering high-quality audit work tailored to each organisation's structure and purpose
• Leading audit engagements from initial planning through to final completion, including risk assessments, internal control evaluations, and client reporting
• Acting as a trusted advisor to clients, offering practical guidance on technical accounting matters, internal controls, and sector-specific best practice
• Contributing to business development activity, including involvement in tendering for new work and identifying opportunities to deepen relationships with existing clients
• Mentoring and supervising audit seniors and trainees, helping to build a collaborative team culture and supporting colleagues' professional growth
• Keeping up to date with regulatory developments and changes in charity accounting and governance, and sharing relevant insight with clients and the wider team
• Playing an active part in firm-wide initiatives, including training, recruitment, and diversity and inclusion efforts
• Using systems including MS Teams, Excel, Word, CCH Audit Automation, and CCH Accounts Production to manage workflows and deliver quality outputs

What we're looking for

• ACA or ACCA qualified, with a strong exam record and solid experience gained in an audit and accounting practice environment
• Demonstrable experience auditing charities or not-for-profit organisations, including working knowledge of the Charities SORP
• A genuine interest in the not-for-profit sector and awareness of current issues affecting it
• Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, with the confidence and professionalism to build credibility at all levels
• A commercially aware mindset with a clear understanding of client needs and expectations
• Self-motivated and quality-focused, with a positive, resilient approach to work
• Friendly, approachable, and collaborative in style

Nice to have

• Familiarity with VAT and tax considerations specific to the charities sector
