NF1 Research Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Paediatric or Adult trained nurse to join our Highly Specialised NF1 Complex service, focusing on research. Saint Mary's MCS hosts this prestigious NF1 complex service, one of only two centres in the UK providing comprehensive care for both paediatric and adult patients.

The Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) service at Saint Mary's MCS is a nationally commissioned service renowned for its expertise in diagnosing and managing complex NF1 cases. This service coordinates care for patients with NF1, a disorder that predisposes individuals to benign and malignant tumours.

The service operates with a multidisciplinary team (MDT), to address the diverse needs of NF1 patients. It provides expert diagnosis, including mutation testing for unusual NF1 phenotypes, and effective monitoring to ensure the highest quality of care.

Working in this field, you contribute to advancing the understanding and treatment of NF1, a genetic disorder affecting many individuals worldwide. Your work can lead to breakthroughs that improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

NF1 research offers numerous opportunities for professional development. Main duties of the job

Clinical Trial Coordination: Manage and coordinate clinical trials related to NF1, including patient recruitment, consent, and follow-up. Ensure adherence to study protocols and regulatory guidelines.

Patient Care: Provide comprehensive care to patients enrolled in clinical trials, including monitoring their health status, administering treatments, and managing any adverse events.

Data Management: Collect, record, and maintain accurate data for clinical trials. Ensure data integrity and confidentiality in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.

Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, geneticists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the smooth operation of research studies.

Education and Training: Educate patients and their families about clinical trials, NF1, and the importance of research. Provide training and support to other healthcare staff involved in research activities.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all research activities comply with ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies. Prepare and submit necessary documentation to ethics committees and regulatory bodies.

Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the NF1 research program.
