Salary: c.£60,000 pro rata, depending on experience

Hybrid (Oxford) or remote, full-time or part-time considered

Are you a sharp and efficient news editor with a solid journalistic instinct and an interest in health and medicine?

A well-respected medical news service is looking for a strong all-rounder to lead daily news operations while the current postholder is on extended leave. You’ll be responsible for managing a steady flow of short-form content – including breaking news, daily stories, and a subscriber-facing newsletter – and will oversee a small editorial team including freelancers and a staff writer.

This is a key hire at a busy time, so our client is open to shaping the role to suit the right person – whether you’re looking for full-time, part-time, or a job share opportunity.

The role includes:

  • Planning and editing daily news stories, often under tight deadlines
  • Writing 2 – 3 short news pieces per day
  • Curating and sending a daily newsletter to subscribers
  • Managing a news and features writer and regular freelance contributors
  • Liaising with the managing editor and wider team
  • Handling some basic admin, including freelancer invoices

What we’re looking for:

  • A journalistic background with newsdesk and editing experience
  • A keen eye for news, excellent editing skills, and strong attention to detail
  • Confidence working with press releases, wire copy, and original reporting
  • Experience managing or commissioning other journalists
  • An interest in healthcare or medical news is helpful, but not essential

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the buzz of a newsroom and can confidently keep content flowing while supporting others to do their best work. You’ll be joining a smart, collaborative team who care about quality journalism.
