Job description

Newly Qualified General Practitioner (Fixed term contract)

Oakdale Park Primary Care Network (PCN) is a friendly, progressive, and collaborative partnership between two practices: The Park Medical Practice and Overdale Medical Practice. We serve areas including Borrowash, Breaston, Chaddesden, Oakwood, and the University of Derby.

The PCN adopts a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare, integrating specialists to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and address health inequalities in our community. Supported by GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, we work collaboratively to develop new services for our patients in partnership with other healthcare providers.

We offer a supportive environment where you will work alongside experienced professionals dedicated to mentorship and collaborative care. We encourage personal growth in your chosen specialty and provide strong mentorship and peer support from day one.

Our team includes clinicians who are registered trainers outside of the PCN, bringing valuable knowledge and experience to our organization.

We are excited to offer a new role suitable for newly qualified GPs, initially funded on a fixed-term contract until 31.03.2026.

The position involves 6 sessions per week (4 at Park Medical Practice and 2 at Overdale Medical Practice).

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will manage caseloads and address a broad range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all patients.

Responsibilities include conducting surgery consultations, telephone consultations, visiting patients at home, issuing repeat prescriptions, and handling queries, paperwork, and correspondence promptly.

You will make professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred by other healthcare workers within the organization.

You will assess healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems, and screen for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Developing care plans in consultation with patients, aligned with current disease management protocols and referral guidelines, with clear and contemporaneous notes, and prescribing according to the practice's formulary.

The role requires undertaking all standard duties of a GP within primary care, with good experience in chronic disease management, primary prevention, and screening services.

Mandatory training must be current and compliant with all relevant policies and guidelines.

About us

The successful candidate will work with both practices, Park Medical Practice and Overdale Medical Practice, as part of the Oakdale Park PCN team, hosted by Park Medical Practice.

The PCN comprises two practices, allowing for straightforward decision-making and swift action when needed.
