Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Manufacturing/Electronic Product Development engineer to drive NPI activities from concept to production readiness in the United Kingdom. You will ensure manufacturability, design-for-manufacture, and robust production tooling while coordinating with electronic engineering for validation and testing.

The role requires significant experience in high-reliability sectors, including process development, documentation, and cross-functional project leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Electronic/Electrical/Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • Significant experience in electronic product development, NPI, manufacturing engineering, or product engineering in high-reliability, regulated sectors.
  • Proven track record transferring electronics from concept to production ramp-up.
  • Strong hands-on background in process development, assembly, inspection, test, and documentation.
  • Good knowledge of schematics, layouts, BOMs, and component selection.
  • Understanding of DFM, DFA, DFT, reliability, validation, and configuration management.
  • Experience with cross-functional design and manufacturing reviews.
  • Strong planning, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Desirable experience with RF/high-frequency electronics and high-rel industries.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and eligible for security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Support NPI activities from concept and prototype through qualification, production release, and manufacturing ramp-up
  • Represent manufacturing throughout product development, ensuring manufacturability, assembly, test, reliability, and production requirements are considered early
  • Support electronic engineering activities including requirements capture, design reviews, component selection, verification, and validation
  • Support product design review gates and lead manufacturing design reviews and production-readiness reviews
  • Contribute to manufacturing approaches covering process flow, assembly methods, tooling, equipment, inspection, and production-test requirements
  • Plan and support prototype, pilot, and pre-production builds, resolving design and manufacturing issues through structured root cause analysis
  • Prepare and release manufacturing documentation including bills of material, drawings, work instructions, process specifications, and test requirements
  • Work with suppliers and internal teams to ensure components, materials, processes, equipment, and resources are production-ready
  • Support design changes and maintain configuration control of product and process documentation
  • Support handover into production and early manufacturing activities until quality, yield, and process stability requirements are achieved

Job description

Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Significant experience in electronic product development, NPI, manufacturing engineering, or product engineering within high-reliability, regulated, safety-critical, harsh-environment, or high-performance applications
  • Demonstrable experience transferring electronic products from concept or prototype through qualification, production release, and manufacturing ramp-up
  • Strong practical background in electronic manufacturing, including process development, assembly, inspection, production test, and manufacturing documentation
  • Good electronic engineering knowledge, including reviewing or developing schematics, layouts, component selections, and bills of material
  • Understanding of design for manufacturability, design for assembly, design for test, design for reliability, process validation, root cause analysis, engineering change control, and configuration management
  • Experience participating in cross-functional design and manufacturing reviews
  • Strong planning, communication, problem-solving, and hands-on production support skills
  • Experience with hybrid microelectronics, micro circuit modules, advanced electronic packaging, chip-and-wire, die attach, or wire bonding is desirable
  • Experience with RF, microwave, high-frequency, precision analogue, or harsh-environment electronics is desirable
  • Experience in oil and gas, aerospace, defense, space, automotive, medical, or other high-reliability sectors is desirable
  • Experience with product qualification, environmental or reliability testing, process qualification, or manufacturing-readiness assessment is desirable
  • Knowledge of relevant IPC, aerospace, defense, or high-reliability electronics standards is desirable
  • Familiarity with process FMEA, control plans, APQP, PPAP, Lean, Six Sigma, or similar approaches is desirable
  • Experience with external suppliers, subcontract manufacturers, or specialist process providers is desirable
  • Must be eligible for full security clearance
  • Occasional travel may be required for supplier, customer, or project engagement
