Job summary

Cummins is offering a New Product Development Buyer Placement at its Darlington site in the UK. The placement is for a Summer 2027 start as part of the Corporate/CBS Purchasing team, providing insight into how a major global organization operates and how purchasing supports product development.

You will work across teams to gain commodity experience, interact with Supplier Quality, and develop skills in procurement, cost reduction, and project management during your placement year.

Qualifications

• Working towards a degree, preferably Engineering or Business.
• IT skills/program knowledge desirable.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Customer facing experience would be a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support new product development through technical sourcing and supplier coordination.
• Maintain project notes, databases and track progress with the project leader.
• Identify issues, plan priorities, and help mitigate risks.
• Procure prototype parts with suppliers and contribute to cost reduction and delivery performance.
• Analyze data to identify savings and ensure budget adherence.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic New Product Development Buyer Placement Student to join our team specializing in Purchasing for our Corporate/CBS Business Segment in UK, Darlington. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer of 2027.

External Qualifications and Competencies

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Key project work in support of new product development technical sourcing departmental objectives.
• Maintains project notes, databases, and other records; monitors measures and communicates with Project leader.
• Identifies, tracks, and works with others to resolve project issues; able to Plan and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with project's needs.
• Works with a group of suppliers - prototype parts procurement, supporting cost reduction, capacity planning, delivery/quality performance, risk mitigation.
• Data analysis to identify saving opportunities and ensure Budget adherence.

Engagement across several teams, gaining commodity experience with close integration with Supplier Quality team; close integration with Supplier Quality team

Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

• Working towards a degree - please specify degree being studied, preferably Engineering/Business related although not limited to these subjects.
• Positive attitude, strong personal motivation; IT Skills/program knowledge.
• Communication skills and teamwork.
• Customer facing & customer support experience would be a plus.
